Nice looking truck.

If your looking for authentic, then Ford had at least 4 different types of mirrors for this truck.

1) The Bog standard mirror ford used from 1967 to circa 1983. Mostly a car mirror put on the truck.

2) Western Low mount swing lock recreation mirrors. Like on my 1981. Look in my gallery. The "western" mirror for the 1973 to 1979, and in a variety of different styles between years. The two major differences that I'd be worried about, are in the way it mounts to the door on the 73 to 79, compared to the 1980 and later. They wont interchange easily, if you have chrome race tracks on your truck, etc or pre existing holes. The ones on the 1973 to 1979 bolt to below the vent wing, window channel, and right above the dimple in the door. if you use the 1980 and later swing lock mirrors, the bottom mount will be placed right in the center of the "dimple" so, would be a problem if you had race track, chrome.

3) The mirrors that came with the trailer special package in certain years. (Not sure of the name of them.) Mounts with 3 screws over the indentation in the door, and has two supports that bolts to the below sheetmetal of the door.

I'd recomend either the "Western" Swing lock, or the "Camper special" mirrors, for a mean "Big Rig" look.

4) The mirrors like on the camper specials. Full truck mirrors like on the F-500, and bigger. Mounts to the top of the door above the window in the front, and has another mount below the vent wing.

2)Or You can look through the gallery and find the type of mirrors that you like.

Big Rig style

Up here in the great white north you can get option 4 big-rig style mirrors for dirt cheap at princess auto. I'm considering a pair for my truck, 'cause I think they would look wicked. I'm not really sure how I'd mount them however. Anyone have any ideas?

For ease of mounting, it's probably easiest to go with the "western" mirrors.

Heck, if you drive fast enough, you won't need mirrors anyway!

I don't like the smaller car type mirrors to much. I have them on my 77 F-100, and they surve their perpose, but they aren't my favorite. I have the western type I think on my Bronco, but they're black, and I want the crome ones. They have 2 brackets, with 2 holes on each bracket. I think they'd be the best for your truck, or most trucks out there.

You can get them from LMC, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard, and I'm sure other places, for the reproduction mirrors their around $40. Or you could check ebay, for oem for cheap.

Good luck,
Matt

The big rig style I have always heard referred to as "West Coast" style, but anyway, if you traier tow they are real nice... but for just generally good use, and good looks, I would prefer the before named western mirrors, they look good, are big enough to actually see out of, and the folding function is nice too...
BTW in some possibly all, rear view mirrors are required by law to operate on the roads, at least the driver's side, and the interior at minimum. I can't stand driving without the passenger mirror being there too. I broke mine a while back, and was pulling a trailer, boy, not being able to look over there about drove me crazy!

Hmm... I looked at your truck in your gallery. That's a nice looking truck, showing real work at customizing a bit and making it look good. But it's also a 4x4. If you mostly want it to look good, then go for an original style chrome mirror.

If you are going to use it four wheeling in the woods, do as I do, and assume the mirrors really will be needed and really will get clobbered from time to time. That means West Coast or at least Mini West Coast, so you have enough mirror to see, but swing-away brackets so they fold alongside the truck when they hit a limb -- and if you're lucky, they don't blow the glass out of the frame.

It's all a matter of what you want. My guess is, that truck looks so nice that big old West Coast mirrors would be out of place on it.

Most important of all, have fun, making your rig just the way you want it.

I stil havent decided what kind of mirrors to put on it Since that picture i have added all chroem frotnend and also chrome fender flair trim on the truck. I Also gotta put the polished stainless steel rockerpanel moldings on the truck also. As for mirrors i still cant decide... its slowly commign together. gotta wire int eh back bed marker lights then get the tainlights installed and then get the back bumper lights hooked up and working. I also got every light in the interior to glow red (all the insturment panel lights and also the dome light). My dad likes the flip type mirrors that are liek the "west coast" ones from LMC i might use them but i just cant decide im afraid to install any mirrors because im afraid to screw up the look of the truck.

I've got a 78F-150 and I just put on the mirrors from my BroncoII. Looks close enough to stock, but gives it just a little bit better look. They are slightly more rounded on the corners plus it gives the passenger side mirror that gives better visibility (objects in mirror may be closer than they appear)...

One small thought on mirrors: It's great to have wide angle visibility. But a convex mirror on the right really messes up your ability to judge the angle of a trailer that you're backing up. If you're going to use a trailer, I recommend a flat mirror, then add a little convex wide angle mirror to it. If the whole mirror is convex like many today are (marked "objects in mirror may be closer than they appear"), you won't like it when backing a trailer.

I agree I like the swing out mirror, but I rather the round style from the 80s modles, but their mounts, don't match the mounts of our trucks. I might just unbolt some 80s mirrors from their mounts, and bolt them to my 70s mount, and hopfully get the look I want.

Go with a crome set no matter what you do. And I the swing out mirrors are the best.

Good luck,
-Matt

the base bolts on the 80 up has a smaller bolt, so it will bolt right to your base. I had to use a 70's style on my 86 in a pinch, and had to drill the hole out just a bit. If you buy aftermarket heads, the bolt is stud style, and bolts below the mounts, the factory head has a bolt that countersinks.

I used the swing outs from the origional mirrors and took the mirrors off their origional swing outs. It's a pretty easy swap with the right screwdriver bit or torx bit (depending on the doner mirror mount)
