Howdy! I've had this squealing from my front axel. It typically happens when I'm driving slowly. The brakes/ rotors are good. I've had the bearings/seals replaced twice in the last month. Something keeps unseating them. Any ideas what could be happening? Thanks mucho!

One or both sides? Manual hubs or automatic? What year truck? Did you repalce them yourself?
On Manual Hubs
1) Not torqued properly?
2) Are you missing the snap rings or c-clips on the end of the axle?
Didn't replace them myself. The truck is a '96 XLT w/ Warn Premiums. This is happening on the driver's side. I'll have to ask about the snap rings, c- clips when I talk to him tomorrow.
A different mechanic did this job six weeks ago. I kept hearing the noise. It's loud. Driving me nuts. He said he couldn't find anything wrong besides replacing the bearings and seals. He said it's an old truck. This didn't work on me. That's why I brought it to someone w/ more 4x4 experience. Now this mechanic is having the same problem. I'll bring it back in later this week. He told me he'll honor the job he's done. I'm wondering if it could be something thats loosening, unseating the bearing cup? Thanks for your help with this! It give me something to work with.
Yeah when you get new front bearings at the same time you should get new bearing cups/they are purchased seperately. If they are not "hammered" in properly it would cause binding and premature wear.
Do you have any slop in the wheel. If you jacked it up if the ground and tried to move the driver-side wheel...does it feel loose? It is quite possible that the first mechanic did not replace with new bearing cups...second mechanic may not have caught it either.
So my conclusion:
1) Bearing cups were not repalced at the same time the bearings were.
2) If they were new, maybe they were not properly seated.
Just a guess however. Let me know what you find out.
Forget that guy and take it to someone who can tell time......or better pick up a good book or CD and learn how to do it yourself......it aint all that hard bro. At least that way you will know FOR SURE it was done and done right!
Howdy again! Thanks for the help. Got the bearings done right. Mech. said it was sloppy work and we were squared up. I'd like to do this kinda thing myself but between two jobs and parking on the street (nowhere to work) it's just too tough right now.
