Fuel Pressure Gauge

I am wanting to set up a temporary gauge to verify my fuel pressure, and shim my Fuel Pressure Regulator if I need to on my 2000 PSD. Some have hooked a fuel line to the drain tube and done it that way. Other's have connected up to the test port on the side of the fuel bowl.

Does anybody have any part numbers for the fitting on the fuel bowl. I understand it's a 7/16-20 threaded port, but I have been unsuccesful at finding a fitting. Someone had posted a NAPA brake fitting part, but the Autozones and O'Reily's are unable to cross reference it.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

Diesel Innovations has a line that threads into the fuel bowl and a gauge that is liquid filled. Designed to be permanent under hood mount.
Mounts to the alternator bracket.

Heat. It's about time you got rid of that silly vette' avatar and got Duke back where he belongs.

Archer. The fuel system between the 94-97, and the 99+ trucks is completely different, shimming the regulator will not do anything for you. The only way to accurately check your fuel pressure is through one of the 1/8" ports in the heads, opposite the fuel feed lines, or install an external regulator that's fed from those unused ports.

Sorry Cookie.

I've been so confused lately. I think I'm going through my mid life crisis.

I think the only solution is to buy myself more mods and toys.

Go to your local hardware store and get a NPT fitting to test for pressure at the heads per Cookie's advice. They have a ton of options, just get what works best with your setup.

Thanks for the replies so far, but I have understood, that shimming the fuel regulator on the 99+ PSDs can be beneficial. If there is no benefit, then I really don't need to worry about checking the fuel pressure. Thanks!

never heard of checking it at the head..where do I do that at exactly? I though you could only check oil pressure there..Ive seen people check it beside the fuel filter but I never have as my fuel gauge with hose has corse threads for reg gas pressure checks..do they make an adapter to the fine threads of the diesel or is that not where I really need to be checking?

I've got an early '99 PSD. I installed a permanent fitting into the fuel bowl at the test port with a 90 degree elbow and a plug. I can remove the plug install my 100 psi glycerin filled gauge that is on a 12 inch piece of pipe. That way I can see the gauge while I am in the driver's seat.

I have read from a couple of places that shimming the FPR will not benefit the newer PSD's. All I know is that I shimmed my from about 55 psi to 65 psi and never looked back.

I've been wanting to do the FPR mod so I checked my fuel pressure at the schrader valve next to fuel regulator. I had 70 psi at idle, I thought stock was something around 45 psi. So I should be checking it at the head to get the correct reading? Thanks again for all the great info.

Hey Cookie, just a note to say "thanks" for the EBPV mod info, did it last night, love it, aloha.

No, the schrader valve is the correct test point on your truck. Not sure why the pressure is so high unless somebody shimmed the regulator before you got the truck.
