Just bought a 1995 F-150 supercab with the 300 inch six. It has a 3.08 rear end ratio and a five speed manual tranny. I want to get the ratios for the five gears without spending a lot of bucks on the spec book. I called dealer's service, but they said they don't have time to look stuff up for people. Ford's main customer service line says they don't have the info.
I could see the F250 having lower gearing as it is heavier. My previous truck was an '84 F-150. It had the 4-speed with a 2.47 rear end (I thought a 3.08 was a highway gear?). The ratios are:
1 3.01
2 1.78
3 1.00
4(OD) 0.71
That gives it a overall final drive ration of 1.75. It would turn about 1300 RPM at 60 MPH. compared to my new (95) truck (rations listed above) has an overdrive (5th gear) of 2.5 overall ration. Also 1st in the '84 was pretty high.
