Front hub assembly question

i own a 1988 ford f-150 4X4 i-6 4sp, my question it has the heavy duty front end (quad shock hook up) but when i was changing a flat a while ago i noticed that the locking hub assembly was removable. what is up with that, my father has a 1989 same except for a 5spd and supercab, and he has the more traditional hubs with the hex cap screws to service the lockers, just woundering, and answers to my question will be very helpful,

Front hub assembly question

Is it the big one piece hub that just about comes off when you take the tire off? I think Ford used these in 87 & 88. I had an 88 Big Bronco with these hubs, they were great to service, easy to get off. You can change them over to the regular style though. You keep your rotor knock the wheel studs out, get the standard big hub, (The piece the lock out fastens to) hang your rotor on it, put the studs back in, ( or just get the whole assembly, rotor & hub & related snap rings ) then put regular lock outs on it. If you broke one I'd say this would be the way to go, as these are probably very expensive to by new, and since they weren't used that long may not be many in the wrecking yards.
