Allstate Motor club
I have been a member of the Allstate Motor Club for a few years, but yesterday had to have my wife's car towed. Thought it was the starter, but turned out to be a dead battery. Anyway, when I called the Allstate Motor Club, they were unable to find a wrecker to come to my house to pick up the car. I live in a highly populated section of Tampa and each towing company they called said they didn't serve that area. Allstate said they would give me an authorization number and I could call any towing company and would be reimbursed. I found a service on my first call and they only charged me $39.00 to put my wifes car up on a flat bed and haul 7 miles to a local garage. I am paying $79.00 per annum for the membership and beginning to think it is not worth it. This is the first time I had to use there service in about three years. Glad for that. What are your opinions and experiences?

That is my thinking also Triton_2002 !! I did the same math and thought something is wrong here. We don't drive much out of the area and when we do, I normally pick up a rental car or fly. Think I will just carry a couple of towing company telephone #'s with me in case they are needed. Appreciate your insight and post.

As my vehicle gets older, the chances of it breaking down get better. It's like with any insurance. You pay every year, and in the event you need to use, hopefully it's there.
And the statement made that it's just like any other insurance; a gamble.
So I guess if you own a home you shouldn't have insurance, because it's a gamble?
I don't know about you, but I sure can't afford to replace a million dollar home out of pocket.
But that's just my opinion.

I'm not saying I don't have insurance. I'm just saying if you never end up using it, you might as well have set fire to that cash. But you never know when you might need it, so its a gamble..........
Like the extended warranty I bought on my truck, never had to use it and that's good, but I could of used that money on something else...
damned if you do, damned if you don't kinda deal......that's just my opinion..

Some of those insurance companies are so late to pay that many service companies like locksmiths and wreckers will not do business with them. They also smother companies in paperwork when they try to collect for their service. It is just not economically feasible to do business with them. They also like to dictate the price for the service.

I agree with Mil1ion. I've had AAA for maybe ten years or so. I mainly got it for my wife and later added my daughter. It always seems to pay for itself one way or another. They will change a flat tire, bring gas if you run out, send a locksmith if you lock your keys in the car and of course, tow.
They also offer discounts if you travel much. Checkout their web site for details.
