Trying to find out why my truck is squeeking. It's a 96 F150 4x4 Short Bed (I6 motor). It doesn't seem to be a motor noise though.
The noise, only happens when I am moving. At stops no noise. Start driving, get up to 10-15 mph starts to squeek...almost a whistle and it's constant. Slow down, get below 10-15 mph, no noise. Sounds like it is coming from the drivers side in the front end somewhere. Also, it only seems to happen after things "warm up". By that I mean, when I firt hop in in the AM and drive, it takes 3 or 4 minutes of driving before the noise really gets going.
I pulled the drivers side wheel off and nothing as far brakes or rotors seems out of sorts and the 4x4 seems to working fine. I recently had the front brake pads and rotors replaced. The truck has manual (Warn) hubs - not sure if that helps.
Oh yeah, does my truck have a speedo cable? Could that be it? I mean this is a loud squeek/whistle and it doesn't seem to be coming from the cab anywhere, but I'm kinda stumped.
Anyhow, just looking for some ideas on what I can look at. It just sounds like something needs some grease, but I have no idea what it could be.
If its a constant squeel when your on the gas, it could be as simple as the belt being worn-out. What would be happening is the crankshaft pulley would be spinning inside the belt. Take it off and take a look at it. If the grooves are wider than inbetween them, its worn.
I'm having the same problem with my 96 F-150. I have it in the shop today to see if it is the front U-Joint coming off the axle. I had the brakes re-done and bearing s checked already
