oil additives - Lucas? Engine Restore? None?

Okay...been reading a lot of oil threads but didnt' see much on additives. I use Engine Restore on each oil change and have a buddy that uses Lucas each time. The Restore is very thin while the Lucas is thick. Is one better than the other? Should I skip it all together? I change the oil regularly and usually before 3k miles since I do a lot of short in town drives. I run 10W-30 now but am considering changing to 10W-40 since I'm almost at 200k and after reading some threads.

Thanks,

Jason

The Lucas Oils additive is a very good product that I use myself in my 91 302 with 168,000 miles on it. For a lot of intown driving your oil tends to be hotter and thins out, the lucas additive allows the viscosity to stay to high and the oil tends to "cling" the engine parts keeping oil right where you want it.

My uncle has used Slick 50 nearly since he got his F250. It has over a quarter million miles on it and is still unbelievably strong. He pulled an L-9000 that was stuck on a delivery out of the mud. I am using it and I can feel and see a difference. I have never used the Lucas oil treatement, but the shop that rebuilt my E4OD added Lucas transmission treatement and swore by it. I use 10W40 Castrol Hi-Mileage oil along with the Slick 50.

Slick50 is a great product and I used it in my 94 F-150 when I purchased it brand new. It now has 284,000 miles on it and still runs great. But the Slick50 works best on new engines as it coats the moving parts with a teflon coating that aids in start ups, since there is no oil pressure till the motor is running. It also helps with oil flow over the moving parts. But if your engine is already worn out or has many miles on it the Lucas oil additive takes up the slack in the bearings and keeps the oil clinging to the moving parts.
Both products are great and have their place.

I do mostly trips of under 10 miles, a lot of NYC stop and go, and I change the oil (castrol 10W30 High Mileage) every 2500 miles with 5 qt of the Castrol and 1 Qt of Lucas.

Also.....the place that does all our tranny work uses the Lucas ATF additive on every rebuild
