Ok, guys, I'm man enough to admit when I've been beat. 5 hours into trying to get the dang thing off, I gave up. Now I'm sitting here with a beer contemplating my next move. I've got most of it off, I cut it off in pieces but the side of the old mount that is directly over the frame is the part that has frustrated me. I tried to jack up the cab but lifted the whole front end so I guess my cab is in pretty good shape but that's no consolation right now. (excuse me while I slam this beer). Also, while I'm whining I'll tell you that I found that whoever did the body work on the truck before she was mine put alot of bondo in the floor so guess what's happening now as I remove the mount...yup, you guessed it, I see me going and buying some sheet metal tomorrow and trying to weld in some floor board. (glug glug some beer) IF IF IF I can get that side from over the frame. (belch). I'm thinking about just cutting the floor out. (glug glug) but I really don't want to have to do that (belch). I'm afraid the only way to get to it is with a torch but with all that motor oil, I may be asking for trouble. (more beer now). Any suggestions?
Oh, and did I fail to mention that the bracket the bolts to the frame that the cab mount is bolted to is rusted perfectly the size of the new bushing? (slam another one back) I'll have to weld a new center into the bracket before I can even attach my cab back to the frame. (more beer now). I'll tell you this much, when I do the other side, unless I learn something creative before then, I'll pay somebody to do it. (belch)
Mount hole rusted thru...............yup, my '70 was that way too. Had to weld it and redrill hole.
The only cab mounts I did was when cab was off frame, laying on it's back. Worked pretty well, everything lined up great....plus easy to work on. Unfortunately you don't have it that way! Bummer. Are you using one of those spot weld drills?? They work pretty good for getting panels loose.
The supports are spot welded to the floor pan about every 2". It's my understanding that the replacements fit over the existing ones.
All floor pans are the same from 65 to 79 if you feel that you need to go hunting.
John
I bought the weld on, not the bolt on replacements.

No, I don't have one of those drill bits and honestly, I don't see how I could get lined to take out those last welds. Now I'm wishing I'd have waited until the motor was out.

Was this after you loosen all the cab and radiator support bolts along with the straps on the fenders?
Doh! This is my first time. Thanks. Could somebody give me a step by step on this and also tell me exactly what bolts to loosen? It looks to me that I'll have to remove the front bumper. The front bushings don't look that difficult but what else needs to be loosened up there?
I looked at the rear cab mounts and didn't see how to loosen them. I bought some new bushings to change them all out anyway but I'm not seeing how those are supposed to come out. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got all but the rear cab mounts off now. I ordered some bushings and ended up being the wrong ones so now I'm waiting. If anybody can give me any insight on the rear cab bushings, I'd sure appreciate it. When I get these off, that'll be six that I've replaced. Are there any more bolts to loosen to raise the cab to put the front cab mount on?
debastuss, I never said anything about bolting anything, the replacement pans that I have seen are welded in over the existing ones.
I was also informing you that the pans are the same from 65 to 79 so if you needed to cut and weld in a section you had many options for donors.
There are 6 mount points for the cab & front clip, and are in pairs. You could literally pick up a 65 cab & clip and set it on a 79 chassis, and the holes would line up.

Oh, okay. Well I finally got mine cut out but when I do the other side, I'll definately keep that in mind. Oh yeah. Can you give me any information on the rear cab mounts? It looks like they unbolt from inside the cab.

I think that is correct, it has been a while, and CRS.
Well John,
It looks like the gas tank has to come out also and I just filled her up, too. By the time I get the body bushings changed out, this will be a "tech thread". They'll just have to excuse the whining. Don't get me wrong, I love working on my truck but the learning process with those first time jobs can be overwhelming sometimes. That's why I stick with you guys and FTE.
Gas tank came easy enough and the rear cab bolts were the easiest to get out. Almost done now. It's best to just bite the bullet and take the seat out then the gas tank before you even try to get to last two mounts.
I have some pictures in my gallery of the floorpan and cab mount replacement. What are you cutting it out with? I had no problems using an air driven skill saw kind of cutting tool. It used 4" chunks of hacksaw blade, which cut about 12" of metal before they needed to be changed. It all came out in sections. It took me 3 full days to do one side....
I really don't see how you can cut the cab mount out and leave in the floorpan without making a mess. My experiance told me it was EASIER to replace them both. Replacememnt panels aren't expensive, and if you are going to tear up the truck, might as well do it right.
PS I didn't have to remove gas tanks or any other mounts to do this...
