Started PS conversion on the 72

Well, I finally started cutting up the 72 today. I hacked out the front crossmember, yanked the steering box off, and layed it out for the new Nissan power steering box. Looks good, I'm glad I don't have the engine in it now, though-

Hey, if it works, why not?

Nissan has made big trucks for years, they sold them under the UD nameplate if I remember right.

Hey Jared, can you get pics for everyone else? if not I can bring over my digital camera and help you out.

I have a ton of low-quality pics in my gallery. Bear in mind, all of this work has been done today, starting after 4pm, minus pulling the engine and front clip. This is going way too fast, I need to slow down.

On edit- I'm out of welding wire, so it looks like it won't be completely done today.
If you want to come down and take some better shots, be my guest. I gotta warn you, though- my garage is still trashed.

interesting project. Is the use of a nissan box a standard upgrade route, or something you thought up? You do know, this won't make your truck a Titan

Out of curiosity, why would you want to use a Datsun P/S box?

You guys are a laugh a minute-
The standard is a Toyota box, actually, but I found a nearly new box from a destroyed Nissan Pathfinder in the junkyard. I think it was about a 94, the box looked a lot beefier than the Toy box, and I like the steering feel of the nissans anyways.

Are you just using the Nissan box, or the box and the pump ?

I'd be happy to shoot some better pics if you want, or just stop by and shoot the breeze. I should be free tomorrow afternoon/evening if you don't mind me swinging by, or this weekend if you won't get back to it until then. Oh, got the hiboy to stop backfiring, just have to finish dialing in the carb, put some mufflers on it (backfire split the old ones...), and fix a few small coolant leaks!

Come by this weekend if you want, tomorrow is my last day of second shift so i won't be around. I'll probably go help a friend of mine drop an engine in his Chevy sometime tomorrow or Saturday depending on the weather, so give me a call before you swing by.
