Another 6637 Question

I have a 2002, and took out the filter housing which wasn't as big of a job as I thought. How many of you guys are running the 6637 Filter in your 2002's and did you just take the filter tray out and leave the battery tray intact?
What did you do with the sensor in the bottom of the tray? I know this has been beaten to death, but I was wondering on the 2002 trucks who have been modded.
I plan on carrying the old filter tray in the tool box along with the 5/32 wrench to replace it if I have to for warranty. I also had a light oily film on the cover of the filter. very small amount of dust on lid,, none really in the hose.

I left the bottom of the tray in, zip-tied the sensor to the brake line and layed it in the tray under the filter.

Zip tie it up someplace where it can get ambient temp air, close to the filter. You can take the filter-minder and put it in the top of the 6637. Drill a hole in the big plastic top and pop it in. Make SURE you dump out and clean up the plastic shavings before you mount the filter on the hose. Just drop it in the old air box tray, it'll stay put.

What size drill bit is needed for the filter minder? I only have a 3/8" drill and largest bit is 1/2".

I don't remember the size bit needed, just measure to old hole.
I used a wood paddle bit, didn't have a hole saw that size.
Paddle bits are cheap, grap a pack of different sizes at the Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.
You'll use 'em 'round the house anyway.

Unhappy I feel like an idiot

I just spent 2 hours getting the 6637 on my 02 only to watch it slide back off even before closing the hood. How are you guys doing this? Hope I can get the old box back on properly. I installed the 6637 as tight as possible and clamped it back but it will not stay put. What am I doing wrong? Maybe the 02 configuration is different.

Are you using the 4" piece of exhaust? I did and I also used the constant torque hose clamp from Napa. Not the usual screw type hose clamp but a beefier design that seems to "pull" it tight. I don't have the part number off hand.

I painted the 4 inch exhaust tube with 3 or 4 coats of black paint. I think the paint gave it enough texture that I have not had any slipping problems and I actually had to use a hammer to tap the tube into the end of the filter. I just used a regular clamp. 4 months with no problems.

Clean up the hose and heat it up with a little portable heater or blow dryer. No open flame! Slip it over the filter end and grab the hose with channel locks and pull down to seat it real good. Then take the stock clamp along with the two inch clamp you "just bought" and put 'em together on it. The stock clamp with the 2 incher work fine. Tie up the temp sensor in the free air flow and either mount the filter minder on the 6637 or tuck it away in the fender.
Stir gently, serve over crushed ice and enjoy the taste.

You can also search on many, many threads here that have "how-to's".
It's also called the "kwik filter". Scroll down a page or two, you'll see it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the comeback

This morning I followed previous advice to thoroughly degrease both the filter flange and the intake hose and cut off the little tab sticking out of the end of the hose. It seems to have worked and all I used was the stock clamp which I beleive was the main problem all along. I broke off part another hose clamp holder deal on the hose accidently allowing me to use the stock clamp and nothing else. It seems to barely fit but does seem to be secure. I left the actual filter minder in the box and secured the wire. I must admit that I am concerned about maintaining proper seal with all the bouncing around I do with this 4x4.

With your hood down it should hold it firmly in place. I removed my box and it still stays still. Make sure with your box still there that the filter will get a good air flow to it.
Congrats on getting it installed, now you can really hear her breathe! You'll hear a hiss when you come off the throttle too.
