interior lighting

Has anyone had a problem with interior lights not turning off after all doors closed and engine running. Tried reclosing all doors nothing works I pull out fuse no. 27 let it set and it will be ok for a while then happen again. Could it be a relay hanging up? This is a 97 Exp. 95k mi. Eddie Bauer.

It's a common problem addressed in quite a few threads. Spraying WD40 in the door latch may fix it.

Have the same problem with my 99 and the driver's side rear door... well not anymore due to the "fix" I'll describe below....

Ford engineers should be tarred and feathered for this one... the actuator switch for the interior light was removed from the frame and integrated into the latch. Really stupid idea.... but no amount of WD40 would "fix" the problem for me. So I attemped to remove the latch and see if I could correct the problem... wrong.... with the auto door locks and everthing else in there, I couldn't get the stinking thing out. So, I traced the wires back and found the ground wire... and cut it. Now, I have do not have a problem with the light staying on after I open and close the door... but now the light does not come on at all.... which of course I expected. You could try the same thing, but make sure you find the door that is causing the problem first.

wd40 in the latch usually solves the problem. Dealer will charge about $100 to do the same.
