Well, it is at the dealer and they have stated that the gaskets are leaking. I sure am glad that you guys warned me. They are in the process of tearing everything down and are going to make sure the heads pass the pressure test and all that. They will be doing all this under warranty, thank goodness. I just have a $100.00 deductible. I will let you know how it goes.
Paw Paw has it right, let the dealer deal with ford under the warranty.....With the symptoms you gave, it leads me to think that you have a faulty head gasket......The person who made your head gasket probably sneezed during the creation......
Let us know what the good dealer you are dealing with said..and or does....
Well, I just got it back from the dealership and guess what! Both gaskets were leaking on the exhaust manifolds in the rear of the engine. No wonder I couldn't see the leak. After 5 days of it being at the dealership, they pressure tested the heads, replaced the gaskets and gave it a new thermostat and oil change and she is running like a champ. Thanks for all of your insight. The warranty covered everything except my deductable of $100.00. I can't imagine what the charge would be out of pocket. I use Brien Motors out of Everett WA for my service and Randy my service advisor is great.
ALLRIGHT Jeff, good feedback & to hear all is put right & under warranty too!!!!
Sounds like you too have a stand up dealer looking out for his customer!!!!
I'm not fully clear on what gaskets they found leaking.
Was it the exhaust manafold gaskets that were leaking at the rear of the engine????
Or was it the head gaskets & they were leaking onto the exhaust manafold at the rear of the engine????
If it was the head gaskets, it would be interesting to know if they are still using the "REVISED" head gaskets they used on my 4.0Leaker in 02, Ford P/N YU3Z-6051AA & YU3Z-6051-BB???? They should be listed on your work order.
Mine is still tight after almost 3 years now, with these "revised" head gaskets.
PawPaw, sorry about that, it was the head gaskets leaking on to the exhaust manifold. They did use the revised head gasket. It said it right on the work order. I am glad to hear they have lasted you 3 years. I really don't want to have to foot the bill myself if they go bad again.
Well it's good to hear they're still using the "revised" head gaskets on the pushrod 4.0L, kinda gives me some warm fuzzy feelings about them. Seems to me if they had further problems, they would have probally revised them again by now. So we should be good to go, right!!!!
Yah I had two sets of new head gaskets, new heads, then the "revised" head gaskets, before they finlly fixed my 99 4.0Leaker lol.
It initially drank about a qt in 6 weeks, It was a factory crate engine, replacing the delivered engine, which had bad wrist pins, dang thing sounded like a diesel. Then the replacemnt engne slowed to a sip, such that even the dye test didn't show anything, but it would eventually use another qt in about 3 months, just a slow steady sipping. But the Dealer & Factory stuck with it until they put it right. BTW they did mine under warranty too!!!!
Anyway this is good feed back for anyone else with coolant doing a disappearing act & they can't find the leak.
Good feedback on the head gaskets, if you want to seal one up nice and tight, use those "revised" ones, part numbers listed above. LOL
