I WAS IMPRESSED
5.0L 33x12.5x15 tires, 3" lift and 3:0 gears front and rear, and an automatic C6 trans. now I live in Glendale AZ and down the road from me is a popular 4x4 spot with a hill called crazy horse. The hill is in 3 stages once you go past the 1st stage you have to turn right while climbing up plus the fact this hill is not dirt it is rock and lots of loose rocks on the way up along with big potholes from all the others who attempted to conqueor this hill and failed. I have seen this hill shed trucks and Jeeps before. I once attempted it with my Honda 200x ATC.
Just to have it go aprox 1/2 way up and roll back down. I saw a Jepp attempt this feat the Jeep startted to lose traction and that was all she wrote the driver tried to back down the hill
and you guessed it he rolled instead. If you make it past the 1st stage of this monster you look down and everyone watching looks like ants i don't know the exact hieght of this monster hill but it is definitly several hundred feet of damn near straight up hill. the 2nd and 3rd stage of this monster is like the old Ford commercial with the pile of rocks. To make along story short I attempted the 1st stage and back out of it.
After enjoying some other off-roading I got my courage up and pointed the F150 towards the hill again. I had my step son and his friend along I put the F150 in 4 low and in 1st gear we attempted the hill 1st stage went no problem i had to turn right to go to stage 2 well now I am past the point of no backing out
the F150 went up stage 2 no problem going over the potholes and loose rocks the kids are screaming WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!
I had to yell at them to SHUT UP so I could hear what was going on.Besides the fact my heart was about to jump out and walk and my ##### cheeks where holding on to the seat all by themselves. I had to turn left to finish the hill which is the worst part stage 3 all loose rock and a step you had to go over cuz all the rock has broken away from everyone who did do this before. If you went 8 feet to the right you're rolling down the side of this mountain. I can't believe I did this but I did in the middle of going to stage 3 I STOPPED got out to see what was on the other side of the 3rd stage my boys friend would not get back in the truck he decided he would stand on top and see if i make it. the engine clunked out from being on such and angle i got it to start back up and went instantly into 1st gear and the damn truck just climbed up and over like nothing was in it's way I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THIS OLD F150 and in the past i always called the IFS front axle junk BUT NOT ANYMORE. after we got safely to the top my kid and his friend were jumping up and down like a Rocky movie. I TOLD MYSELF I WILL NOT DO THIS HILL AGAIN (just to make my wife happy)BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM NOW CONVINCED ON KEEPING THE F150 and to all those Chevys YES YOU ARE LIKE ROCK UNDER MY TIRES
"like a rock" on the sides of roads everywhere.
