thrust bearings

thrust bearings

I was just reading and found out that the thrust bearings for the FE motors are different. 58-63 are different from a 64.

does anyone know about this and how much different?


if so and i have the wrong ones can i buy just a thrust bearing?

In '64 they went to a wider thrust bearing. Early ones can be used in a later block, but later ones cannot be used in an earlier block.

What year is your block?

Pre-'64 engines use a .465" flange thrust bearing. Later engines use a .535" thrust bearing.

Pre 64 thrust bearing # Federal Mogul 4020M. Small set back. See if you can have one for Sat del locally. G.

where would i need to measure to check this?

I have put it in the block and i seem to have no prblems. that i can tell. But still what do i need to check?

this is the kit that cam with my rebuild kit from summit

FEM-4261M10


I am thinking that they might be what i need ( i hope )

the FEM-4261M10 is for the ten under that i had the crank ground

I don't think it would have went in if it were wrong. Do you have the old thrust bearing to compare to?

nope i wish i did so that i could check but that got sent off to the machine shop with the crank and block

The kit you have might have the old style bearing possibly. Not sure. Is it a federal mogul bearing? The old F/M I have here out of the 63 406 have: fm 2304 CP BO stamped in them. This is off the thrust bearing. I'd be certain you have the correct bearing. It does sound like it fits ok though. G.

yes it is a federal mogul bearing. It slipped right in with no problems. and good close fit so i am good to go
