There is no "stock" setup. The gears were determined by GVWR or user preferences etc. There is a data plate decoder and directions for using it in the Read First: FAQ thread at the top of the forum. The transmission and differential may have been changed also.
generally 2wd trucks have a 3.50 9" rear (1/2 ton)or a 4.10 dana 60 (3/4 ton). these were the "base" gears unless other option were chose for most of the 70's
transmission ratios are
303 3spd: 3.03, 1.66 (think), 1. 303 is the base 2wd transmission.
NP435: 6.69, 3.34, 1.66, 1
BW T18: 6.32, 3.09, 1.69, 1
there are all diff ratios. the gears in my 73 9 inch are 2:73, and in my 78 9inch is 3:08 my buddies 78 f250 he has 3:73 factory. Whats the q for? Are yuo trying to figure out your own gears?

Yeah, I'm trying mainly just to figure out the axle ratios. I'm going to put bigger tires on and I want to compencate for the tires and lift later on.
There is a small metal tag on one of the studs that holds the third member in the rear end housing. The tag is about 1" by 3". If you look at your tag there will be 2 rows of numbers. Look at the bottom row nearest to the stud. The 3 numbers will be your gear ratio, and will tell you if you have a traction loc rear axle. For example: if your tag reads 3.25 you have an open differential with 3.25 gears. If your tag reads 3L25 you have a traction loc rear axle with 3.25 gears.
