Made it

It was a awesome trip we had other than the few problems along the way.

Anyone know much about MSD offroad boxes? I think mine might be taking a dump on me.

Looks like fun .

If i were you i would consider using a 1" lug racing lug nut (this is what i use on my 81), they will spread out the stress on the wheel and you stubs will last longer .

At least you found your way up, made the damage worth it.

Looked like fun. For there being no mud around.....

Those are cool rims you got there. I particularly like the space age fastening techniques you usd to hold the wheel on. I still use the old technology of using lug nuts.

Seriously, how did all eight studs break?

yeah they all sheared on the highway. I was able to stop before a 175 lb tire and rim took off.

it is always great to show the little guys up.

*edit*

I beleive they came loose. I had the tire off like 2 weeks before and never retorqued them. stupid me. they were the 1/2" studs. I have much larger ones in there now. Just need to buy more for the other side and be done with it.

What do you want to know? They are pretty simple to diagnose via the tests in the instruction manual. The thing is, they are unfixable because the board is encased in solid expoxy. The upside to this is, MSD has great customer service and if its even remotely under warrenty they'll just replace it for free after you ship them your old one. I had an offroad box that crapped out on me, I didn't have the recipt, it was out of warrenty and they shipped me a new one anyways because "it shouldn't have burnt out". Even really old ones they will fix for you for pretty cheap. The thing with any MSD box, is that they are sensitive to power spikes from your system. MSD has a small cheap inline surge protector that everybody with an msd system should run.

power spikes.

hmm I draw all sorts of power with fans and winch.

It is working fine right now. I am just picking up a points dizzy and balast resistor. That way I am safe to at least get off the trails. I do not want another MSD since I am going EFI this fall some time.
