I've got a 97 Expedition with a transmission problem and need HELP! 6 months ago, I had the CHECK ENGINE light come on several times at about 50 mph. I had AutoZone pull the codes and it was a P0755 B-shift solenoid malfunction. It was on and off for a couple of months and then stayed on. I drained the fluid/filter (including the torque converter) and replaced it with Mercon V about 2000 miles ago (good or bad??)
The problem has since gotten worse and seems to be related to the heat in the transmision (it shifts fine when it's cold). I had the check engine codes pulled today and it was still just the P0755 code. Now it is going into "limp" mode (OFF light flashing on the overdrive switch) almost every time I drive it and it comes up to temp.
Can I just replace the solenoid pack (about $250 from Ford) and expect the tranny to live another 25,000 or should I give up and replace the whole transmission??
Hey and welcome. I've been lurking around here and other forums for the better part of five years and I've never seen a post referring to the code you mention. Maybe you should check around the transmission forums or maybe a tech will happen by here. Worst case scenario, take it in to Ford Service and see what they say. I'd sure hate for you to throw good money after bad.
