My question envolves switching from an automatic to a manual transmission. My truck is a '95 f150 with automatic w o/d transmission (r470w or something like that). I have found a donor truck that has a mazda 5 speed transmission in it. Both are 4x4 and have the 302 v8. I know what all is involved in switching from auto to manual but the main question is if i switch the computers (that has to be done right?), will everything function right? Also, will my transfer case in my 95 bolt right on to the mazda? the 5 speed has 80,000 miles on it, everything works as it should but once i install it, i dont want to take it back out anytime soon so what clutch or transmission parts should be replaced? This is my first time into a project like this so it will be a learning experience. does anyone have any additional advise or things i should be aware of?
Thanks
jordan
You dont have to swap PCM.
There is section of wireing harness at the trans you will need to swap.
Go with a new clutch and slave cylinder.
The little Mazda has some rubber plugs in the top where the shift fork rods slide. They are prone to leaking replace them and put a little RVT on them.
In fact drain the tranny and replace the front, rear and shifter seals while your at it. Then refill with fresh fluid. These are good trannys but so many of them get trashed by oil starvation caused by leaks.
