Well it seems the ol' exhaust manifold/cracked stud boss head issue struck my 95'.
Can someone tell me the main differences between a 87' model year 460 head and a 95? Is the exhaust or intrake locations different? I cant find any aftermarket head for a 95 model year....as you all probably know....
I would like to use the edelbrock performer heads....but they dont have the exhaust crossover....im not too sure if i can make everything work with the FI.
Plus, this motor is going back together with a Banks Power Pack and probably a mild Crower cam....so its gona rip with a good set of heads.
You will have to use a set of EFI heads as the intake will not mate up to set of non EFI heads. It is too bad that no one makes a set of performance heads for the EFI 460's. I belive that the 93 and newer heads are better than the pre 93 EFI heads.
93 and newer have slightly smaller combustion chambers and larger ports and intake valves. They should bolt on to 92 and back and should run a lot beter.

All 92 and back should be E7s the F3s came out in 93. I guess I wasent clear the F3s are a direct bolt on for in place of the E7s and will flow alot better.

I too have a broken bose on my 1991 460 pass. side head. Went to install the banks power pack headers and o-sh**. I still have about a 1/4" of thread in the head. I am considering welding a stud in place. What do you guys think?
black460 where did you order these "alabama heads from and how much did they cost?
mine where completely shot....4 ears where gone on both heads.
i didnt get the alabalm head complete for 295 each because i didnt want to use a 2 piece valve and i am installing a crower cam with crower springs.
at a first glance, the head looks nice. they will be lightly ported because i see a few areas of improvement.
im psyched....with the banks system, ported heads, and the crower power beast installed...this thing should have some GRUNT!
Im going to be starting a thread about the restore...including what mods i do to the motor.....with pictures.
so far im in just about 5k on this thing...on parts and materials. since i am original owner...and the body is good with only 60k on the clock...to mje its worth it considering the cost of a new f-350.
well, i recieved the alabama "f3" castings a couple of weeks back.
just got around to taking them to my local machine shop....we pulled them out to take a look and....the friggin ports are way out of wack.
1. the combustion chambers are similar to the old design. the f3te heads (according to my machinest) have more of a heart shaped combustion chamber (unshrouded at the exhaust and intake). these ar more like a closed chamber head.
2. some of the intake ports do not line up with the gasket. side to side...two ports are far enough out that the gasket will not seal.
3. the intake ports are not set up to accept the injectors.
i called alabama and they say they havent seen this before. so maybe i got a set with a casting number blunder. they said they will take them back and make the issue correct.
my big question is, are all the heads there the same way???
What is the applacation for thease heads? It should be 93-97 if not they are not fuelie heads. I have looked at the early head (87-92) and the later heads (93-97) and they are not that diffrent. To my knowledge Ford never changed the intake on their fuelie motors. The exhoust port my be a little diffrent but Ive talked to two diffrent people that have used the older manifolds on the newer heads. they even use the same gaskets. Sorry about the problems your having let me know how it comes out.

F3's use larger valves, thinner castings, E7's are smaller valves, thicker castings. I have heard E7's are better for porting and performance if you put bigger valves in them. They are also less prone to cracking. I put a rebuilt EFI 460 with E7's and it doesnt have the power the F3's had, but I just got a good deal.
