I've been looking at several trucks the past few weeks. I've noticed that some people have the tailight brackets upside down to make the lights lower to the bumper? What is the original position? Any opinions on which looks better?
Up is the original position. I think which way they should be turned depends on the bumper and bracket location. A stock bumper bracket looks good with the up position. Hugger bumper brackets tighten the bumper gap to the bed and I think turning the tail light bracket down tightens that to the bumper.
I'll bet I've hooked my clothes and other stuff on the taillights at least once a day as I walk past it in the garage, with them in the "up" position.... someday it will do damage (to me or the truck). Of course, if I got it out of the garage....
I have mine in the up position[bumper tucked] because I want those behind me to see mine. People are becoming more and more used to bright lites high on new vehicles, I kind of figured it is best to have them as close to that as possible. NO, I have no intention of mounting late model lites in my fenders. I think it looks as good as down, myself.
My problem was hooking the license plate. I solved that problem by moving it to the middle of the bed. A lot of guys have the brackets in the "low" position and that puts their license plate behind their bumper. Not a good thing in CA. Jag
The license plate on my son's truck is behind the bumper, I just figured it would be alright since it came that way... I'll call the Texas DMV tomorrow and ask them...
I've been messing with using it both ways. Problem is I think it looks good both ways LOL... I have them in the up position and it looks a little better even though the bumper is tucked in. Nice thing is, I can lower them next week if I don't like it.
Amazing Randy, that is exactly what I was thinking. Those billet brackets do look sweet and your right, they'd make me very happy. LOL... Thanks for the offer!
When I get the drawing done, I'll post it in my gallery for anyone who wants it.
The (2) parts to each bracket are really simple and easy to make. I was ready to make them myself with hand tools, but a buddy cut mine on his CNC mill with a simple program. He could probably be persuaded to make some more for anyone who wants them. I'll ask him.
What drove me to make these was how much I hated those wires hanging out the back of the light. Neatness counts, you know.
