i am wanting to know if anyone knows how good the $79 grill guards are? i found this one in the jc whitley catalog, the side brush guards are $49, i am not wanting one that looks good just one that is durable, if i had a way i would make one myself.
Is this the part number on JCWhitneys website for the black one you are looking at ZX865381W? A friend of mine had one just like that, but it was chrome on his Bronco and it held up to a 55 mph plus deer collision with no problems. I personally like the Ranch Hand style guards. The style that you are interested in is probably stronger than most of the light duty expensive ones. If you install it properly, it should be fairly durable and last as long as your truck. You might have to repaint it a couple of times. The wrap around headlight guards are the weaker point though. Unless the grill guard is fully welded as one peice those are fairly easy to damage. The bright side is that you can replace them though.
just wondering, how do those (the ones from JC Whitney) attatch to the truck? Are those the kind where you drill holes in the bumper and attach them that way or do they bolt to the frame under bumper? i was looking at one myself but they dont have a picture for this application.
thanks,
jordan
this one is part #AJR865381W IT IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE ON PAGE #34 IN THE NEW 2004 CATALOG ON THE FONT COVER IT SAYS TAKE AN EXTRA 10 TO 15% OFF. AND THE ABOVE QUESTION IS A GOOD ONE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THAT ONE TOO, THEY JUST HAVE A PIC OF THE GUARD NOT ON A TRUCK.
It looks to me like the one you are looking at mounts under the bumper to the frame. Some of them mount both under the bumper and through the bumper. If it mounted through the bumper there would most likely be brackets with holes in them along the middle of the grill guard. This one probably is fairly easy to install. If it mounts through the bumper, then the bumper usually has to be removed to install the guard. You will probably have to cut slits or holes in your air dam.

i have no air dam so i don't have to worry about that. i hope it mount to these two bracket under my frame, there is one on each side each with 2 holes, i guess hooks were there at one time or maybe a brush guard was there before i bought it. if anyone knows for sure what guard io am talking about i would like to know how durable they are, how they mount up, to the frame or the bumper.
