RPM's To High?

RPM's To High?
I have a 93 F-150 with a 302 and AOD. When I pull my glass boat to the lake the truck struggles while in OD and cant keep speed at 65. So I have to pull it in Drive. But that causes the rpm's to go up to 3K. Is that to high or is it okay to drive like that for a long period of time?

It's fine to drive the 302 at 3000 rpm. It won't hurt it, and it will have more power there than at the lower rpm's in OD. Running it fast is better than running it slow and lugging it under load. I run the 351 in my F350 at 2800-3000 rpm on a regular basis when towing, due to the low ratio gears that are in my truck (4.56's). It pulls much better in that rpm range

Using DRIVE while towing is the best thing to do, since at higher RPMs the 302 has more power.
I sometimes use Drive w/out towing just for that better acceleration and power
. 'Course, mileage goes down too...lol
