Ujoint change interval?

My 96 4.0 2wd has 151K miles, and will shortly be tow vehicle for a small (1200 lb) Coleman tent trailer. I have new radiator, new aux tranny cooler, but original Ujoints in drive shaft, with no problems whatever to date. How long do these joints last, and should I just go ahead and change them, or forget about it?

Both of mine had gotten noticeably loose by 190k on my '89 3.0l. I changed the rear at 150k, the front at 190k. I do tow about 2% of the time, but when I tow, I'm generally towing > 3000 lbs.

Just break down and get 'em changed! My Aerostar started to have odd noises like the exhaust rubbing against the Drive Shaft when we coming back from Canada last year (The van had 190K on it). When I got it over to Ford, the service guys were amazed that the joints had held together, especially with us towing the pop-up in the mountains. I had a U-joint fail on on another car some years back. New rule now: Every 120 to 140 miles, change the joints!

Good luck!
