I did some home work a while back about this topic. My understanding is when you service the trans the whole system should be drained out including the T/C and lines. The new fluid and the old fluid are a bad mix. I can't recall at this time but there is a type of chemical reaction between the old and new fluid. Hope this helps.

i remember reading something about that at a shop where they had just gotten one of those machines that flush all the fluid... i didn't know if it was just propoganda to help sell more tranny flushes or if it was true.... i haven't seen or read anything else about that...
Thanks guys for all the info I'm just now starting to get in the mix with changing breaks, Cam sensor, and fuel filters. I will p robably take this one to my local ford dealer and pay the high price. You know youve been ripped when the ford guy walks backwards and holds his hand behind his back to recieve the payment for the work.
Not all flush machines are created equal. The with the BG flush machine as the new fluid goes in the same amount of old is pushed out. Some other machines the flow rate is controlled by the operator. If the operator doesn't control the flow properly there is a lot of blending and you don't get a complete flush. Not a big deal with clean fluid, but if the fluid is contaminated it can be as good as no flush at all.
