Hay Guys I Would Like To Know What Tuners You Are Running.
I Have Been Looking At Them And Read On The Forume That I Need Gauges First. If You Would Let Me Know What Kind Of Gauges You Have And If You Liked Them It Would Be Much Appreciated. It Will Be Late Summer Before I Have The Money. I Just Bought This Truck And The Bug Is Nibbeling Away At Me To Get The Most Out Of It In Power. I Love This Truck!!!!!!!!!!
uhh ohh, you have a slight case of Powerstroke Modding Syndrome aka PMS! I have ran both the superchips micro tuner (scmt) and the edge evolution. They both worked great although the edge seemed to have more power. These days however i have switched to custom tuning to get the most out of my mods.
The bug has bit, it is too late. I've not gone very far with it yet. A few things, shift kit, external tranny filter, fuel line mods, Tymar intake. Just received my gauges. Just ordered an exhaust... Now I have to figure out what chip I want.
I have edge programer form BD performance . BD has better trans. and engine mods. in there program then the stock edge. Has three setting econ. tow, race.{40,80,100 HP}
I installed the new air filter mod that Ford motor co. has it is the third gen. air filter for the 99 to 02 with the 7.3l diesel. Useing the Donaldson air filter. This is the best filter you can use lets as much air in as any of the washable filter kits and cost the same or less. Plus you don't have to clean and retreat just replace it and it has a very long life have had mine for a year now and it looks like new still and it has over 10,000 miles on it now, filter minder still in the green.
As for gauges all you need is an exhaust temp and trans. temp. If you have a autoamtic. Boost gauge is not nessary but look cool.
i have dipricol guages... i like them because they look very similar to the stock dash on my 02.. black face and back lit green... check out the link i have a post that shows them in daylight and lit up at night... you can get them from blackcloud diesel & one of the new sponsers of this site sells them... i would have bought them from the folks that help sponser this site, but they weren't at the time i bought my guages... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...=376827&page=1
johnny8 i like your gauges and been reading your threads on gauges good work keep it up!
thank you sir...! just trying to share the experiences i have had with my truck so maybe someone on here can benefit... lord knows i have learned a lot by reading the threads on this forum...! lots of info... lots of great people.... the real challenge is to find mods that you think will work for you... there's more than one way to do some of these mods..! i am rethinking my air intake upgrade right now... i'm not sure exactly what i'm gonna do... but.. like i did with my guages... i'm gonna take my time and think about it.... after all.. i don't have an endless supply of money...! too bad for me...!
I had planned to run a tuner but after spending hours of reading and digging I decided to spend the extra and am going with a custom tuned 4-position chip from DP-Tuner.
I'm running the ISSPro EV's and really like them. LINK The only thing with the ISSpro's is that they use external amplifier box's for the tranny and egt guage. Everyone else has that all built in with the guage. Other than that they are really great guages. They match up with my stock 01 guages really well. We put Autometer Z series in my dad's 03 and they match the stock also. Ill have pictures of them up on my site tonight.
More settings are looked at with the right flip chip, the tunes are not just generic for every PCM. Plus with the custom flip chip the tranny settings like tourque converter lockup and shifting are adjusted to fit each tune. For example, they will use different tranny settings for the Tow tune versus a economy tune or race tune. Being able to run in an economy tune and then flip to a race tune to smoke a pesky ricer is a nice benefit with the flip chip also and its a plus to not have to get the tuner out when you want to tow, just turn the ****. I decided on Jody at DPtuner because of all the people with good experiences with his stuff, there are some other good tuners out there also, but being able to call and talk to the person who does the tunes and understands the product is important to me and thats another reason.
My dad has a 6.0 and he just ordered the SCT Xcalibrator 2 from inovativediesel, its a good setup because of the custom tunes and it can read and clear codes. The guy's from innovative were really great also, they talked him through getting the right code for his along with asking him exactly what he was doing with the truck so they could set the tunes for his needs. They also gave him a cell number to call if he has any problems night or day. Thats the kind of customer service that we look for. The tuner should be in this week, Ill let you know how it works.
I Wa Looking At The Superchip That Way I Could Read Codes But The Thought Of Pulling It Out Every Time I Did A Changup In Driving That Would Get Old. After Reading Bdt Future Setup That Would Sound Nice? Reading Code Would Also Be Nice Too I Could Just Go Down To The Autoparts Store If I Have A Code They Will Read It For Free (hope That Never Happen)
bdT... thanks for the info... i'm going to get a predator diablo... i want to do a little experimenting with the settings... i have more mods to do.. so i think getting a custom chip for my stock truck now would be a waste later on when i have new intake exhaust and the sonax valve... am i right in thinking a custom chip after the mods is a better way to go...?
