long block vs. short block
hello
from what i've gathered, a longlock is an engine with the heads and a short block is an engine without the heads.
so if i were to buy a short block motor, does that mean i'd have to use the old heads from the old engine?
help me out here...i'm kinda lost

Your exactly right. You could go with a short block and get your own heads, either purchase new ones or rework the ones you have. Since there are major horses attached to the head work, you can gain a lot of HP by doing your own heads with the specific setup that you want! You could also get a bare block and purchase a rebuild kit to further modify your application.
