I posted earlier about my '89 F-150, 4.9 EFI which would stall while in motion, then I would switch tanks and it would start. Well...my saga has evolved.
Dealer could find no problem. I changed fuel filter and added dry gas and FI cleaner twice and the stalling in motion seems to have stopped, but now I have a problem with the truck not starting, (about ebery third try). I have noticed that when I turn the key and it won't go, when I switch the tank switch, I hear a low whirr and the check engine light comes on, then I know it will start the next turn. An earlier response to my problem listed a tank relay switch as the possible culprit, but as a mecahnical novice I'm not sure if I should tackle it, or even where it is.
Had the same problem on an 88 Bronco. Turned out to be the EEC ground wire which is actually one of the two small wires that attach to the negative battery lug. There is a two-prong plug connector ahead of the battery by the radiator support which is notorious for corroding and losing continuity some time. I removed the plug and soldered the wires together to fix the problem. Shake those wires while the engine is running to see if it dies. Good Luck
