I have just started having a new problem. Sometimes in the morning when I first start my Bronco the battery guage will shoot all the way to the top red and stay there until I drive about 10 min. When I come to the stop sign it will go down out of the red a little but goes back up when the RPM'S rise. After about 10 min it will go to normal and work fine the rest of the day. I also noticed when this is happening my battery lite will flicker every now and then.
I have clean the terminals on the battery. I thought this fixed the problem, but the next day it was doing it again. Tonight I will pull codes, but I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.
its giving it too much voltage? its prolly your regulator, the alternater has an internal regulator in that year i believe. go to like autozone or napa and have your charging system checked
Thanks JetBlackBronco you know I new about that but I never thought about it. Is it typical for this requlator to work intermitten? I thought that most regulators ether work or they break. Are their any other thoughts out there??
Some alternators have the regulator built into the alternator. Have you ever had slow starting? If so then I would go with battery, if not, then like mentioned above, take the alternator to Autozone and have them test it. What the hell...its free.

No! no slow starting. does anyone know if the gauge acting this way is typical before your altenator/regulatore dies?
Yes it is typical. Since no slow starts, then take the alternator in for testing and since you have it in, it will more than likely fail especially under load. When you get another one, they will take your original alternator instead of charging you a core charge.
Ok I got my altenator checked at lunch. It passed with no problems. He said my diode passed too with he said was my regulator. He checked the water in the battery and it looked ok, so what next guys?
I'm at a loss. I think it is a bad ground? somewhere!, but where? what do you all think.
Start at the battery and follow the ground and positive lead. Also don't forget the leads to the starter. If you have to, disconnect, clean then reconnect.
I have a special way of getting my battery meter to work. I hit the top of the dash about 5 hard times until it starts to work. It has not worked since I bought the truck. Could be a bad guage if there are no other problems.
