conventional rear end

well i tried contacting ford to verify exactly which differentials my 87 f150 has, and they said i have a 3.55 conventional rear end, and a dana in the front, but they couldn't tell me the ratio (which i'm assuming is also somewhere around 3.55) or which dana it is. but like you guys have been saying all along, it is probably the dana 44. how can i verify this? also, how does a conventional rear end differ from others like limited slip, etc?

You have a Dana 44 TTB front end, and should be the 8.8 rear differental. The axle ratio is either the 3.54 or the 3.55 that was the standard ratio for about all of these trucks I've seen.

I posted an axle decoder on the Forum,

<a href="https://www.ford-trucks.com/misc/axle.html">https://www.ford-trucks.com/misc/axle.html</a>

Look on the door of your truck for the axle code and go to the above listed address and it will tell you what ratio, capacity and wheather it is a limited slip or regular axle. If you have problems contact me at deleontow(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
