Twice in the last 2 weeks I've been idling in traffic when my fuel gauge and temp gauge will peg to the right for about 1 minute and then return to normal positions. The oil pressure gauge and volt-meter(?) aren't affected.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Obviously some sort of electrical problem, but where? We've been getting a ton of rain lately so I'm wondering if its moisture related.
The ICVR is the voltage regulator that is plugged onto the back of the instrument cluster. It is rectangular in shape and about 3/8" thick. It has a connector on it that is similar to a 9 volt battery connector. The problem could be that the ICVR has gone bad. It is not uncommon for them to die.
The ICVR is on the back of the instrument panel. I think its rectangular, althogh I havent seen one in quite a while. The ICVR is Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator. It regulates the voltage to the gauges and sending units. Most like a faulty connection is to blame for your issue. My truck has been doing that sporadically for many years. Mosture will definately affect it, I live in Louisiana HUMID all the time. As Milon suggested a clean up of the sprinted circuit board and ICVR connections would probably cure it.
