I can afford it, but don't know if I can justify it.
Justification is only needed when you're not sure if you can afford it. Since you can afford it, the default justification becomes "because I've worked hard to be able to buy what I want, and this is what I WANT."
Still haven't pulled the trigger yet. List for 46K can buy for approx 38K. Opinions?? I still think Ford will up the rebates or do something to compete with the current GM employee sell. The current diesel prices do not excite me either.
Sounds like a good deal there. I recently got rid of my '03 Denali and while it was an excellent vehicle, I would take my new PSD Harley-Davidson over it anyday!
I agree, keep your current truck. Buy some Ford stock with the $$ and watch it grow until you can pay cash for a new Ford for your daughter in 10 years.
In 2000 I needed a truck so I bought a 4.2l F150 Ext Cab and loved it for four years. It was gutless but rode well and had absolutely no problems and it was what I could afford.
Then I got the bug. I started reading FTE and I would find myself cruising near dealerships with time on my hands. I drove my first PSD on New Years Eve last year. On New Year's Day I went to the other dealer in town and found the truck I wanted. They had it on the lot. They couldn't find the keys so they called out a locksmith and had some made just so I could buy it.
After a seven hour battle with the sales manager, I walked away with the truck I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. He even agreed to put the chrome step bars on as part of the deal. My only regret is that I waited so long!
Seriously, if you want it get it. There have been a number of good posts here that make a good case for buying and for keeping. Like you, I spent a bunch of time trying to justify both the need for the truck and the financial aspects of the purchase. I was never able to justify either. So I decided to buy it because I wanted it.
The Superduty is a real nice truck and mine is much more than I could ever begin to justify. It's been over six months and I've not had a single moment of remorse over the purchase. I did go the 18 month old with 24K mile used route though and not brand new. If you want it get it. There is nothing wrong with that thinking if you can afford it and apparently you can. Good luck on the decision.
Keep your current truck! The Super Duty is the best truck I have ever been in, but I would not buy another 6.0 at any price. An emotional purchase is one thing (that's what I did), but the practical thing to do with your parameters is stay with your current truck. Good luck no matter what your decision.
I do qualify for the X-plan through work, but from what I have read I think I can do better. With the amount of driving I do (25K a year) I know that the diesel will last longer & retain it's value better. I just wish that the diesel would get 20 to 21 MPG on the hi-way.
You can definitely beat the x-plan if you wait until August or September. I got a $46k truck for about $1000 below x-plan with only the AQHA rebate. If I hadn't taken the 0% interest thing I could have gotten another $3000 off. Like somebody else said, though, you'll have less choice, but I didn't find that much of a problem. Got nearly everything I wanted, and only a few things I didn't want.
Forget the 20+ mpg. If that's really a $$$ factor, don't get a 3/4 ton p.u., get a car.
man, I say get it. I got mine becaues it is a bad "edit" truck. I tow nothing, and have no family, got it for me and me only. Will never buy another gas engine for as long as I live.

After much agony, I decided not to buy the truck. I am building a new house right now & the money is better spent there. Diesel at $2.25 also helped me decide. I will just drive my Dad's from time to time to scratch the itch. Thanks for all the replies & I will continue to educate my self on this site. Again many thanks to all. BTW the chevy did get 17.2 MPG on the last tank--mostly driving 60 to 65-- some tooling around on the farm.
I got 15.9 mpg before I got a Superchip tuner and then it went up to 17.5 on the highway. I mostly did not need a truck but I love my F350 crew cab King Ranch. To hell with the payments and the cost of desiel!!!
