i rescently put a cam, headers, and intake on my 302. nothing really major. i also put electric fans on it. i was wondering if they were pulling to many amps and causing the engine to lose spark, thus making the engine die. when i went to start it back up the engine was turning over really slow, like the battery was died. any help would be great.
i have a new battery in it. the alternator could be the problem though. i have it on the charger right now. i will probably get a new alternator and see what that does.
Just a thought, not that this would kill the engine but check your timing if all else fails. If it's too advanced it can make a higher compression engine very hard to crank over.
Just because the battery is new doesn't make it without a flaw, Even new batteries can be bad.
Batteries can short out within themselves.
Ignition systems require 8v to operate.
In relation to power ,The only way the engine will quit running is if battery voltage drops lower than this mark.
The ignition system & charging system are 2 different entities, however without any power available power from the battery, the ignition system won't work.
Never check charging voltage with engine idling > rev it pass the VR trigger speed *800-850 rpm* to see what the alt is putting out.
Warning: Never ever disconnect a battery cable with engine running. This is the fastest way to ruin an alternator
I dont know if this will help, but i had the same problem. I track it down to an aftermarket volt meter. It was wired wrong and the wire wasnt heavy enuf. After removing the gauge and making sure everything ws tight i havent had a problem.
