Where are the Oxygen Sensors located on a 2001 Sport Trac? I now have 81,000 and i pulled codes on it and it said i need to change the sensor in bank 1. However, if someone could tell me where they all are, this sounds like a good project for this saturday.
It depends on what motor is in it ,a standerd V6 or V8 would have an O2 sensor on each bank and after the cat. You will need an O2 socket to get them out.
Bank 1 is always the side with the number 1 cylinder, which is the passenger side on the Ford V6 and V8. If the code shows sensor 1, then it's the one nearest the exhaust manifold (upstream), if number 2, then it's the downstream sensor.
Not sure what the code was, i took it to advance auto parts, and they printed out a thing saying engine running lean on bank 1. Because of the vehicle having 81,000 miles i figured thats what it would be. How do i check for a vacuum leak?
If you are real lucky a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas will clear this up. A clogged injector can cause a lean code on one bank only.
Another thing you can try is to use a piece of garden hose like a stethoscope. Just poke around with it and see if you can hear a vacuum leak around the intake manifold.
P0171 is the code for lean bank one. Try doing a forum search on the code & see what you come up with.
Looked at the vacuum hoses, and they looked fine. So i decided to put a new o2 sensor in it. It was the o2 sensor. Now the sport trac is happy, and so am i now that the mileage will increase.
