Hi im new to this type off truck 1995 F350 duely 2wd 7.3 diesel auto. The speedo is very erratic soon as you set off it starts flicking up and down and then just goes right around the clock face and stops there while you are driving so i don't now what speed im doing. Any ideas as to what sensor to change. Also what is the best tool to use to get the codes from the vehicle i have been looking at www.autotap.com is this any good. what are you guys using. Getting parts in the UK for this type of Truck is hard so i'll have to order my parts direct over the Web. thanks in advance.
you caught the old style diagnosis system by 1 year! go to www.fordfuelinjection.com to learn to pull codes. it's a very simple system that requires 1 wire, a pen, paper, and the knowledge to count to at least 10.
You didn't say anything about hard shifting, so I probably wouldn't say your speed sensor on the rear differential.

If you're speedo is erratic and your ABS light is not on, or blinking (make sure the bulb is good), then the problem is with your PSOM module, which is a little circuit board attached to the back of the speedometer, which is a little microprocessor board that collects pulses from the RABS system, feeds those pulses to the EEC (computer), and moves the speedo needle as well as display "stuff" on the little LCD panel that looks like an odometer.
If the ABS light flashes, or is steadily on, then the problem is either the speed sensor on your differential, or the reluctor ring inside the differential that the speed sensor is aimed at.
If you're truck is operating normally other than the gauge's appearance, 99% of the time it's the PSOM module. The easiest way to fix this is to replace the entire cluster with one off e-bay. Or, just the speedometer module from a Ford dealer.
Unfortunately you can't buy just the PSOM module..
fredric my ABS light is ok comes on at start up and then goes off and stays off. So looks like i'll have to look for a gauge cluster.
Thanks for the info.
