Okay.
Heres what happened, started the truck, right away there was
rough idle like a miss,let it warmup went for a drive highway
speeds come to a light after exiting and still ran rough, at home turned it off to cool down,later started it up samething
(sound hints of a rod knock) went to my sons game, when i
started it up again to go home nothin it ran fine??? It has done it befor just not as long of a time and as bad. could
this be something with the EGR system? Bad wires,plugs,
fuel,coil,Any ideas what to check now and the next time it happens.

Yeah any of those could be it. You didn't tell us a lot about the truck. What year, engine, how many miles, what maitnenace have you done?
The EGR could be sticky and it is my experience that around 80K or so, they will stick and cause rough running etc on an intermittant basis. Also could be bad wires or distributor cap.

Okay additional info, 89' f250 xlt lariat extcab with a 460 and
114420 miles on it, no major maintenance just a water pump
few days ago,dont now when the last tune up was since i bought
it as a project truck(in really great condition)it does'nt look as if
any thing has ever been disturbed in the engine bay. Can EGR
valves be taken off and cleaned? or would replacing it be better?

if it were me, i would just replace it, also, sounds like maybe a vacuum line has a crack at the connection somewhere, and if it gets moved just right, it sucks air, but when the engine torques over under load, or heat makes it malleable and it bends, or whatever, the hole closes up and engine runs right again.
