I just finished installing my new aftermarket chrome grille and in the process, discovered my ford emblem had a wire attached to it. I didn't buy the truck new so I don't know if this is was a stock feature, or if this is also an aftermarket item. In addition, I don't know if it ever worked.
My truck is a 01 SD F250 with a 5.4L Engine. If someone could shed some light on this, I'd be greatfull.
Does it light up when you put power to it? Sounds like an after market deal or home brew. I was going to try to find one or find a kit to make it light up if it would actually work.
it probably isn't stock,i have never heard of one coming that way,but since they are only 30.00 bucks i would bet the previous owner installed.please be advised though that in some locales it is illegal to have a lighted object in the grill, could explain why it is not hooked up.
I don't know if it ever worked, or at least never noticed it as being illuminated. I'll have to plug it in and do an OP check to it. When I do, I'll be sure to post the results.
Electroluminescent emblem pretty cool. There will be a small AC inverter hidden somewhere for it. The 12 volts goes to that. It looks real cool at night. Achilles heel is the wetness getting to the inverter.
My friend put one on his 2000 F-150. Looks good when lit up, but in the daylight the emblem is a different color blue then the stock emblem on my F-250. His is lighter.
Tasca Ford, when they were in East Providence used to sell 'special edition' trucks with a lighted blue oval. CT isn't that far away, maybe the truck was originally purchased there.
