Possibly a simple question. I have an 460cid with edlebrock performer and a holley 600cfm. My questions is with the stealth intake and holley 750cfm will i gain much power being that the rpms are low not much above 5000 on the 460cid and the stealth reaching 6000-6500 power band. With this in mind does the stealth power band not kick in until about 2000 rpm? And while im on the subject what will be a good cam to use that is streetable with power from idle to about 5500 rpm and posibly using stock springs and rods. Its all cramed into a heavy 1972 Lincoln Mark IV with some just found DOVE heads i will add. While the heads are off what can be done to them to add more power if anything while keeping high torque and mids?
i would put the 750 on the performer intake, this will give great bottom end to move that heavy car, power up to 6500 is worthless if the motor is mostly stock and shouldnt see over 5000. i would get a cam in the 220@ .050 range with around .500 in lift. call cranes help line and get a good idea whats best for your app.
I'm running a stealth, 750 vac. holley on my truck, so I am a little biased. I think its probably the best all around intake for a 460 you can get. the performer is really nothing but a stock intake cast in aluminum all you really gain is some weight savings. Intakes have been discussed many times and I think if you search you might be able to find a link to a dyno comparison on the intakes available.
On this site I read alot about doing the heads, and installing old stye 69-71 Timing Chain & Gears. this will make more difference that anything else. as for cams Crane has a good choice out there something that allows the exhaust to get out that is the weak point of the 460. They breath fairly well, but getting it out is a different story.
