I am hearing stories and I'd like to ask you guys..
I'm interested in getting another FORD f-25o or f-350 for my landscaping business. I have a 99 7.3L PSD Auto and it's holding up okay, next purchase would be a 03-05 PSD 6.0L Automatic.
But here comes the problems;
1) 6.0L Torque shift transmission is aparanently the problem, I hear they are coming/falling apart..
2004 PSD with Torque shift transmission, here and I love it. I pull a Travel Trailer with mine haven't (knock wood) had a minutes trouble. 48,000+ miles (the wife drove it last week and I haven't been in it so I don't know how many miles she put on it). I don't understand the transmission, but to me its the best thing since sliced bread.
the t.s. trans had some problems in the 05 model run . this was caught by ford and recall of the afected tranies done. what was happening was a snap ring was installed in the wrong area and would fail letting the planetary gear set move around cracking the case.by this time there should be no more bad tranies around. my own 05 has towed, run several hard dyno runs gets driven hard and never had a problem. its a good unit based on the old c6.
I tow a travel trailor with my 05 and have had no problems. So far, I think it's a great transmission. I don't know what the negative talk is all about but I suspect that it might be a combination of the "brief" issue Ford had with the recent planetary gear recall, and the siezing of opportunity for Dodge and Chevy people to take a shot at Ford. Out of jealousy of course.
It's tough when you got the best, they all wanna take you down.
My truck (05) has had to have the 5R110 built at 2K.. Remote filter full of metal.. Not a snap ring or planet issue.. Now at 7K, it has the 'still clunking' 2-3 upshift (somewhat severe at times) along with a shift flare/slip between 3-4.. I'm hoping it'll explode, or get to the point of a replacement.. Last time at the dealer was a 3.5 week wait.. No more dealer builds for this truck.. NONE of these issues were included in the deal!! It noise and sensation free when new, as was my 03/6.0..
Man, I feel for you Hayapower. I hope you get that stuff worked out. Sounds like you got a bad one. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that mine keeps doing great. Regarding that 3.5 week warranty turnaround with your dealer, do you think it might be worth going to a different dealer to try to get a shorter turnaround? That seems like a long time. Maybe even as far as Northern Nevada, like Reno or Carson City. Might be worth the drive. You could stay the night at a casino and have some fun. I don't know but I would think you could do better than that lengthly of a repair. I would imagine that the Bay Area is a busy place for any dealership.
I think the chances of that are remote. On a site like this one, people tend to enter with concerns regarding their troubled vehicle. If you consider how many Super Duties are sold and on the road, then consider where someone might go (the internet) to find help and answers to their problem, I would deduct the odds to be low to get a melon. Ask around and see what the guy or gal says while at a gas station or at a shopping market parking lot. I would bet that the replys you get will be alot different than what you are seeing here.
I love mine, I'm sure you'll love yours too.
The 3.5 week 'included' getting the rear diff rebuilt as well.. Lost a side carrier bearing at the same mileage.. Was growl'n pretty bad.. Plus, the Tech was sick with that nasty flu that was going around.. I'm a patient person, (most of the time) and the time to get it back wasn't a huge deal.. But, I told them I want it RIGHT when it comes back.. AND, I just now, not two munutes ago, got a Ford service satisfaction phone call for this repair!!
The engine has been great, with no problems, as has the rest of the truck.. The trans has been the only problem that Ford hasn't been able to get right.. Don't think its a dealer level issue, and really is a engineering problem.. I'll try and run it back in in a week or two.. Was hoping that enough of these issues (as far as the clunks) would surface locally that I wouldn't be the only one there crying wolf!!..
