Got a few basic question's for those into paintball. My brother is getting into paintball and wants to get his own gun. I might get him one or go half/half on the cost. So what's a good gun for a beginner? He mentioned a Tippmann and from what I've seen so far it's a high end brand and kinda pricey. Any suggestions as far a brands, semi/full auto, barrels, ect?
greetings triton. glad to hear your getting into paintball, its really an ausome sport.
I use a viewloader orion, which works great so long as you dont put too cheap of ***** into it, the first day i had it i ran nearly 700 super swirls through it and it didn't chop one
i have a friend that has a tippman, its a good gun as well, it just feels ackward.
I would suggest playing before you buy, borrow a gun or go rent one and play for a day, if you like playing go ahead and spend some cash, how much really depends on you. try www.pbreview.com
get a tippman 98 custom. that is the BEST beginner gun by far. there are alot of upgrades for it and they're super easy to break down and clean. my friends and i all started this way and now they've been on a team for 4 years and are always winning tourneys. i stopped cause its kind of expensive but its a TON of fun! have fun with it and go with the tippman!!!!!
I have a lightly modified Tippman Pro-Carbine (not really sure if they make it anymore). Its a really solid marker. Ive added a Smart Parts teflon coated 16" barrel, and a ACI 6-stage expansion chamber. Although Ill never be able to compete with the guys running really expensive markers, this one serves its purpose quite well.
yeah, im pretty sure they're still making the pro-carbines. but they might have been replaced by the A5. it is tough to keep up with my friends who have over $2000 guns! then with their super light triggers and ramping they can just light me up!
A5 huh? Guess I havent paid attention to their line in a few years. I bought this gun close to 8 years ago now. As you can see by the pictures here, the expansion chamber serves two purposes. Not only does it give me a more consistent shot, but it also doubles as a foregrip.
yeah, thats always nice. i love the fore grip. they're built in on the 98s and the expansion chambers just extend the grip a little bit. i love tippmans, they're reliable and strong. its really hard to break them. one of my friends got mad and threw his gun against a bunker a few times and it still worked fine!

I agree. I had the Flatline Barrel kit on mine. The ball would go twice as far and hit harder than any of my friends' guns.
The 98C can also be upgraded as your brother gets more skilled. There are thousands of parts for these things!
i agree that the tippmann 98 custom is the way to go when you start out. I say that for several reasons that i wont list cause i will ramble on for a while and i doubt you actually want to read all the reasons. However i disagree that spyders and pirahnas are bad guns, ive seen them take a lot of abuse and keep going, but for beginners i still think the 98 custom is better. And deffinatly do your research. Peoples oppinnions can quickly be biased once they purchase something; just cause everyone has it dosnt mean that its that good. A perfect example is the flatline
the tipman 98 isn't a bad marker, but I have a spyder Shutter, and enjoy it, I havn't had any problems with it. and perfer it over the 98. my brother has several 98's, he's the technition at a paintball field out here where they use 98's. he could anwer you any question about most paintball markers. PM me I'll get you in touch with him if you like.
I have a spyder and it's a very nice gun, mine is an electronic gun that can to simi, burst or fully, i'd stay away from a gun like this their absolutly not worth it, the only good thing about them is that u can easily adjust the trigger pull
I've got both a Tippmann 98C and A-5. They're both very easily maintainable markers, and there's tons of upgrades for them for those of us who can't leave anything alone. I also have a Delta 68, which is a pistol-style marker. It only holds 10 rounds, and is a little harder to shoot than a standard size marker, but it's still fun. Most general sporting goods stores such as Dick's, Sports Authority, etc., sell Tippmanns and Kingman markers.
Most of the paintball places use Tippmans as rental guns, if that tells you anything. They are hard to break and like everyone else has said, easy to break down. Ive been out of it for a while though, no money . I'll always miss it. I started out with Spyder and upgraded it a little. Sold it to my dad when he wanted to start playin and bought a used Cocker, bad mistake. Those things are so tempormental. Good guns though if you know how to adjust them. LOVE the sound of them too. Sold that and bout a new (2002) Impulse. Great gun and very reliable. Never had any problems with it, but a bit pricey (about $450).
