I have a '74 F250 (8100GVW) Camper Special 2wd. The truck came factory with a 360 engine, A/C, Auto, Super Cooling and the various other Camper Package options. A 460 engine swap has been done and now the front sags from the added weight of a 460 and the 30 year old 360 springs. After hunting all over the net and calling all the local parts stores, no one offers springs for an 8100GVW F250 with 460, super cooling, and air. I've even called Dennis-Carpenter and that was a dead end. Ford will of course laugh at you when you call to ask for them but I have tracked down what should be matching coil spring FORD part numbers for that truck with all the options and if it were a factory 460. However, I can only track down the passenger side spring through the parts locator. Spicer supposidly offers a set of coils for a '79 F250 supercab with 460 and 8100 GVW but what is odd is that the part number is the same for both A/C and non, as well as manual or auto. What is even more weird is that the same part number is for the same year truck but for the 6900-7800GVW trucks as well. So, if anyone has done this swap before on a truck like this or knows of anyone producing or can produce these springs rated for this truck, PLEASE let me know!!!! I would like to match the springs for the truck but if universal springs are all I can find, then so be it. If anyone wants part numbers from FORD or minimum spring ratings from FORD, I have those as well also. Thanks to anyone who can help me out!!!!!
i would search for a camper or old ford motor home springs they took ford truck bodys and converted them so some place might have a listing for a ford camper etc.. hope this helps good luck
You could alway buy a new set of lift springs. Buy a set that lifts 4"s and the weight will drop them down. I have seen heavy duty springs, but wouldn't think they would make that much of a diff.
According to Dennis-Carpenter and his collection of old Ford parts books, there are two sets for that year with the stated options:
Set one:
left side: D7TZ-5310-M spring code: D4TA-AKA
right side: D2TZ-5310-K spring code: 1 red, 2 green
Set two:
right side: D4TZ-5310-K spring code: 1 white, 2 brown
left side: D6TZ-5310-M spring code: 1 white, 2 red
The D2TZ-5310-K has been located in Iowa at a Ford Dealership, however I have not called to confirm due to not locating the match to it. Of course being a discontinued item, if I purchase one and don't find the other, Ford doesn't have a return policy. They consider all discontinued items "as is, no returns." This makes life even more fun, haha. Hope this helps Rory. Thanks.

Thanks for the help! Hopefully the NOS springs should work. By the way can anyone tell me how the factory '74 F250 460 2wd trucks had the upper radiator hose arranged? I had planned on using a 351/400 thermostat housing and '78 upper hose. Is this how it would have looked back then if it were factory? I have a 90 degree housing on it now (chrome that won't stop leaking, Ford o-ring style) and due to the hard bends in the hose and hard time matching hoses for it, I figure just put her back like Ford would have done it. Unfortunatly, i've never actually seen a factory 460 truck of this year (only 78's and 79's) to know exactly how they looked. Thanks again to any info.
I dont see why the 78-79's would be any diff. The radiator is the same. I have a factory 460 in a 77 with super cool and Trailer Special package. I can go look at it tomm in the daylight, possible take photo.
Hey OleBlue, you have a parts book??? I'm looking for a set of front coil springs for a 1977 F-250 2wd reg cab, 7900 GVW, no A/C, 400, 4spd, any idea on part numbers? Also what is the front axle weight rating on your 74? THanks Zac
