Back with another truck.

I traded in my blue 1992 f-150 XLT for a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse so I havn't been on in some time. Recently however I purchased a 91 F-150 with the same engine and what I suspect to be the same transmission. It's a gray 1991 2x4 F-150 with a regular cab and a long bed. It has a 5.0 and I suspect it to have a E40D because it has a overdrive button located on the dash board. At first I thought it was either a C6 or AOD because it didn't have a button on the column shifter like my old 1993 did but now I'm certain it's a E40D. I'm wanting to make sure though. How many bolts does the E40D have on it's oil pan?

I'm glad to have come across this truck. I only gave like $1400 for it. It even has fewer miles than the 93! It does have a few problems like the first gas tank doesn't work and it rattles a little when I go 45 mph. Other than that it's in pretty good shape. Honestly my 93 was plagued with expensive problems. The steering was a little off as it always drifted to the left a little and I suspect the speedometer was a little off too. Some people rode my *** from work and they claimed I was going under the speed limit. Worse of all was the rusted leaf spring mounts that look like they can be snapped with your bare hands. And last but not least I did a crappy job installing a aftermarket exhaust system and headers.

Bassani headers are the biggest pain in the rear to install in these trucks and I learned that first hand. I totally screwed up installing them and I cross threated like two bolts inside the heads and scratched the ceramic coating on the headers. I am /never/ buying those headers again. This time I'm going to buy JBA headers. They look like the bolts can be reached easily. Also I'm not going to use header bolts. This time I'm going to be smart and use header studs! This way they'll hold the header gasket up while I slide the header on. Also I broke the air check valve on the 93 and broke a bolt inside the engine block trying to get it out. This time I'm going to spray alot of lube on both bolts and let it sit for awhile.

Heh yeah this truck is pretty much like a second chance at doing everything right this time. I hated how badly I messed up that 93 but atleast it has taught me some lessons on how to do stuff alot more carefully. On the 93 I had bassani headers, a y-pipe with the catalytic converter, and a JBA exhaust system. This time I'm only going to buy the Bassani y-pipe and either the Bassani forward facing catback exhaust or the Gibson split rear exhaust. I'm wanting the Bassani exhaust because the exhaust exits infront of the rear wheel like the lightning exhaust does. The only way I won't get it is if it gets in the way of the body kit I'm wanting to buy for the truck. There's a body kit available for our trucks on http://www.andysautosport.com/
