upgrade to Bassani Y pipe

My exhaust system has been improved in front and rear with a set of JBA headers and Gibson cat back. Now to get the middle portion cleaned up. Bassani has A Y pipe, part# 58150B3, I can get for $320.00. Has anyone installed this particular part and what kind of performance increase can I expect to justify this investment. This is for a 95 351 w\maf, BBk 56mm TB. So far everything I bolted on made quite a difference!

I bought a Bassani Y pipe for my 94 with a 302. It is a quality piece, I didn't feel a big difference with it but I was already running a 3" highflow convertor and duals before I bought it. I bought the optional flanges with the Y pipe for about $25.00 I was glad I did because the Bassani Y pipe doesn't fit all headers without leaking. The flanges are like a steel doughnut that fits between my Hedman headers and the Y pipe. You may not have a problem with the 351 but you may want to check with Bassani Tech. support. I hope this helps

I installed the whole bassani system two weeks ago on my '92 bronco with 351 and i am very happy. Can't say what just the y pipe would do but the whole system has excellent power through out the whole range.

I've been looking at that same system for my 94; Capt. did you use the Bassani headers? And how long did it take to install?

Hey, plum I did use the bassani headers. I got the thermal coating on them from bassani. They look great and the truck runs great. The sound is mellow yet deep in tone. The whole install took about 5 hours. Didn't even use a penetratig solvent( pb buster). Ofcourse don't really have a rust issue in florida except maybe a little salt spray. I went with those bresslin header bolts, they are the only way to go. Ordered all my stuff from profficent performance. Those guys were pretty good to deal with.

I know both myself and Greystreak92 have run the complete Bassani setup. Plumb, if you are looking at getting the Y pipe, it only makes sense to get their headers as well. They fit like a glove! I also ran their thermal coated headers. All in all, its a superbly designed exhaust system, and is definately worth the $ IMO. If you do decide to do the complete route, you might want to tell that to the distributor you go through. I actually got a discount on mine that way.

My 95 Bronco has it's exhaust system changed out over a period of time. First the Gibson cat back and then the JBA ceramic coated headers, so now you know why I'm interested in a Bassani y pipe. I can definetly feel the increase in power, but I I'm looking for more flow as I've just put on A BBK 56mm TB.

The pipe is definately a good upgrade, in comparisons to that tiny Y pipe, with its great kinked bends. If memory servies, the stock unit is 2" in some places, and kinked down even further .

Considering that the Bassani Y has larger diameter arms on the "Y" and 3" tail with a high flow 3" in and out CAT, the flow increase you are looking for is there no doubt. I run the complete system as WheelMa1 stated. I'll second his opinion. A quality exhaust system that is well worth the money invested.

Y Pipe

Greystreak -
I have a 95 Bronco with a 351w, and a stock exhaust. Been buying parts to increase performance. I have measured the Y pipe, and at least on mine, the pipes that come down from the manifolds are 2-1/2 in outer diameter. After the "Y" collector, the pipe is 3" in diameter. Yes, they have some decrease where there are tight bends, especially next to the trans where the fresh air pump insert is. It stays 3" into the cat, then exits the cat at 2-1/2". Exits the muffler at 1-3/4" . I was just going to replace from the cat back with a 3" high flow cat, 3" tube into a flowmater 1 into 2, then exit the flowmaster with dual 2-1/2".

Question is, Do you think with this stock Y pipe, the bassani would make that much difference for $320?

Thanks for the input!

get a high flow cat first to replace the dual cat stock setup. it makes the biggest difference, because they are very restrictive. (93 351)

Thats what this Bassani pipe does masseysbronco. It uses 1 high flow cat, along with 3" mandrel bent tubing.

Bassani vs Stock

On the stock Y pipe, where the right and left join together, is that a cat, or is it just a heatshield?
Thanks

It appears to be more than a heatshield to me.

I guess I will find out when I cut the cat off and look down the tube this weekend!
