they make auto tracking sattelite dish/attenas for rv's so you can watch tv while moving. a standard dish is not capable of recieving a signal if not aimed correctly I have seen people mount them to they campers when they get to a campsite, you just need to know the correct azimuth and elevation for where your at.
You have to have an clear shot of the southern sky for most of the satellite dishes. So not it can't be mounted IN the van, it has to be ON the van. You're best bet would be a mobile mount that will change automatically to maintain signal.
Which system do you want? There are two. In-motion and stationary. Go from there. Eddie TracVision A5 is intended to provide programming for *in-motion* use and only on screens that are not directly or indirectly visible to the driver of the vehicle.
TracVision S3 is ideal for use aboard *parked* RVs. (not in-motion) http://www.kvh.com/main/index.asp
I used my stationary RV dish system on my van a couple of times when I traveled without the RV. Obviously I was sitting still to watch it. I didn't mount it to anything. It was mounted on 2X4's and I just sat it on the top of the van. I marked where the 2X4's sat so that when I moved the van and came back, as long as I parked in nearly in the same position, I didn't have to re-align the dish.
I used it for those motels that didn't have good cable stations, especially Cartoon Network and Boomerang for the kids.
Now what I do instead is that I record a bunch of cartoons at home, on one of my Dish receivers as they both have hard drives in them, and then they watch the recorded stuff while I'm driving.
