A Question for my son...
Hi FTE,
I have a son who is about to buy a new Ford truck
and wants to know whether it would be better to buy the 6.0 diesel or the V10 gas.
He wants an F350 Crew Cab longbed as he will be pulling a fifth wheel and has a family (2 very active kids). He knows I belong to FTE and has asked me to ask you which one he should get - in your own opinions, of course.
The weight of this fiver is around 13,000# GVWR if I remember, so he has a good sized RV. A dualie is not out of the question for him if that's what it takes.
Since this is his first NEW truck, he wants to be sure it will do everything he needs it to do.

Go for the diesel. We used to have a 95' Dodge 2500 with a V10 in it. While pulling a a loaded 5 horse trailer we got about 5 miles to the gallon.... with a lack of power starting off the stop line. Go for the diesel, it may be more expensive, but it will save him in the long run!

I would recomend the 6.0 also. My dad has an 03 Dually Crew cab with the 6.0. He has a 8,000 pound 30 foot TT and can pull that thing around like it wasnt there, never even needs tow/haul mode and gets good milage, around 15 I think. He is getting a big 5er next year and the ones he is looking at are in the same size range as your sons, my uncle who is a tech at a local RV dealership said the best way to go with that size trailer is a dually.
Hows the Malt-o-meal supply holding up?

Thanks for the replies everyone...looks like the diesel is the way to go. I'll let him know (he was actually hoping the diesel would win out as the one he has his eye on is a nice ride!)
