When I installed my pertronix ignition in a 70F100, on the package it said not to use a ballast resistor. I called the company and asked them how many volts
I should be getting to the coil. They told me that I should be getting at least
12 volts. I am only getting around 5.75 volts. I read a car craft magazine
article and they specified that all point ignition systems have some form of
a ballast resistor. There is no resistor under the hood. So I was wondering
if Ford put some form of resistor under the dash? With a meter, I trace 12
volts just before my firewall where there is a Y in my wiring going to the coil.
Just on the other side of that Y, I am getting 5.75 volts. So if anyone knows
if there is a resistor let me know. Thanks
the wire itself is a resistor find the last spot in the wire where you have 12 volts and cut it there and remove it all the way to the coil then run a new wire the same size from the point at which you cut it and run it to the coil you are then good to go.had to do the same in my truck when i installed a points conversion kit too.
Hey thanx alot ford390gashog. This is most likely where a hesitation is coming from. It runs great but I can tell there is quite a bit more power behind this problem. I will let you know.
