Hi all. Can anyone tell me where the Amplifier for an 1994 Eddie bauer, I installed a radio last week and I put power to the amp and it worked for about a week. Now no sound. I rechecked the wires and they are all fine. Speakers are attached and power on the radio. No sound now. So my only option is to rewire the amp. If anyone knows were it is please take a pic or just give me the location. Thanks.
Rob
I think it was behind the right rear pannel. Check with a local car sterio shop and while you are there buy a by-pass harness. you may have dammaged your radio by connecting it to an amp instead of speakers.
I looked in my 1994 Ford factory electrical manual, I couldn't find any information in the wiring schematics for a premium sound system or a amplifier.
you wont find anything in there. The wire harnes I mentioned will take the two plugs from the amp connect them, to take the amp out of the loop. the radio you bought is already amplified, so don't want to run that into another amplifier. you can dammage the radio, the amp, and will create distortion which will eventually kill the speakers. if you go to a car sterio shop to get the harness you might get lucky and have a chance to pick the installers brain about getting to the amp.
In my 96 EB the factory amp is right above where the throttle cable penetrates the firewall of course inside the cab. It is hard to reach. I by passed the factory amp when installing an aftermarket head unit.
I went to aftermarket and ran all new wires from the deck to the amp, and amp to speakers. Located the amp under the drivers seat. Plenty of room. It may be more work but at least you know there are new cables and wires and if anything goes wrong, you know where to look.
if you got a good aftermarket head unit you don't need an amp. Not unless you got some really good aftermarket speakers and are trying to build a big system.
