98 4.6L. 130000+mi Check engine light lit up a little at first and then has become constant. Diagnostic check at my dad's work said Egr system problem. Purchased and replaced EGR valve, reset computer. Light went off for about 3hrs. Then came back on. We arent sure what to check for next and we were going to buy an OBDII scanner for ourselves so we can pinpoint it.
But then the idea came to me to buy a microtuner because they usually do the same thing and we can increase performance/mileage with it for not much more $$.
Thoughts on anything?
Which ones to buy, what could be wrong?
The DiabloSport Predator will pull codes in the same manner as a code scanner. Plus you gain all the benefits of the Predator in regards to power and performance.
I think that if you want to try and get some performance out of your truck it would be wise to get the diablo predator. However if you just want to pull codes you probably dont need to pay another 200.00 bucks. Just my .02 cents
I bought the Predator for both reasons. It will pull codes on both my Ford vehicles. It also monitors all parameters that the ecm uses; helpful, if your at that level of diagnostics. The added performance is a plus. I gained about 5% mileage pulling my pop up tent trailer. I get 16 mpg on the highway pulling 2200 #'s @ 70-75 mph!
With my mileage increase, and the ability to read codes, I will see a payback over a few years time!
That site you linked for the Predator only listed it for 99+. I guess the computer changed? Mine's a 98.
Is it going to be at least $400? Because i dont think i'll get the approval for an extra $200 to bump performance a tad. I'd probably be better off with the scanner and an FIPK or something.
Any other thoughts on what is actually malfunctioning?
