Why California?

Anyone want to give me their opinion on why (some) people want to move to California. What, we are the 3rd or 4th largest state area wise, but by far the most populated at 33,000,000 and counting. Number 5 in the world as an economy. If there is an attraction, what is it?

It surely can't be affordable housing or jobs.

Perhaps they prefer Shake & Bake ?

Living on the edge ?

They don't have enough smog in their lungs yet ?

The weather ?

And nearly everything is known to the California state to cause cancer, birth defects, reproduction harm, and other things! What's up with that?

And yet they still come.

Native Californians are far and few in between.

It is a great place to visit and I have always enjoyed my trips there, but after a few weeks I was always ready to leave.

That's how I feel about the other places I visit. Home is where:

I hang up my jacket (What; you thought I was going to say "where the heart is"?)

I don't think it's that hard to figure:
1. weather (no winter to speak of, no crushing humidity)
2. economy
3. Location. The state is blessed, along with the rest of the left-coast, with surfing and skiing opportunities...in the same day.

The same things that brought my mom and dad to LA in the 30's. Of course, there's a dark side to all this too- horrific traffic, smog, and the general urban issues that chased me out decades ago. Unfortunately, a lot of folks must've follow me- the State of Oregon had a lower population when I moved here than the Portland metro area does now. At least we don't have to move that far to get away from it.

IMO the life is better in California than it is in Mexico and most of the natives move out to places like here in Oregon and Washington. Most of my neighbors are from California, but claim to be native after 15+ years. (My family's been here since the early 1800's.)

At least in Idaho it's a seasonal thing - Move there after a vacation in the summer and after the first winter of 4 foot of snow - they move.

I wouldn't mind living in California. SF gets kind of cold and foggy; maybe Santa Cruze without the people. In fact, if about 20,000,000 people moved out of the state, I'd be getting my sunblock right now and move to LA.

Howdy- I'd be right behind you. Somewhere between San Diego and San Juan Capistrano (why move south if you can't get the weather thrown in?).
