Last saturday my truck wouldnt start. Ford towed it in and kept it until thursday afternoon. They found a relay had blown but couldnt find out why. I picked the truck up Thursday afternoon and between that afternoon and friday am I logged about 50 miles. Then out of the blue it wouldnt start, pop went the relay. Luckly I thought everything was ok cause ford gave me extras just in case. Sadly while I was on the phone to the service manager it blew all the ones I had. So once again the truck was towed to the dealer.
In total the truck has been in the shop for eight days. Whether or not they worked on it really isnt my prob. The truck has 2400miles on it and its 2months one day old. I can understand little probs here and there but is this rediculous or am I overreacting?
I could be wrong but I think your truck could fall under lemon law. The dealership has I think 3 or 4 trys to fix it, If after the last try it is not fixed you are eligable for lemon law statutes. Do your research, I have heard it is a PITA.
Don't think you are to Lemon Law point yet, the truck has only been worked on by the dealer once. (correct?) You will need to give them 2 or 3 more chances (depending on your state) before you can really start to take any action.
I would say give them another chance to fix it and if that doesn't work take it to another dealer and let them try. That would give you the required # of services to move forward if that is what you decide to do. Electrical "gremlins" can be difficult, but the way modern vehicles are becoming more solid state combined with a better computer diagnostic system means they can usually be tracked down.
Another option you can consider is if the selling dealer can't fix it you can always take it to an auto electrical specialist. You would have to pay for the service even with the truck still being under warranty. It is sometimes worth it to pay a couple of hundred bucks and get it fixed right than go without your truck for days at a time.
I did the Dispute Settlement board with my 04 F-150 and it is a long, slow, painfull process. The "Lemon Law" route can be worse and potentially expensive. I would only recomend that someone take either action after every other alternitive has been exhuasted.

Sound pretty easy to fix to me cause you have it not working and you can see issues. Its the didn't do it for me issues that drive you crazy...I'll bet with a wiring diagram and an hour I'd find the problem...By the way I never heard of a relay blowing. Its not a fuse. But thats where I'm comming from I specialize in auto electronic's and there's not too many of us hanging around in dealerships.
Is it a diesel ? or gas ? there are some known issues !
Just love dealers that have the stupidy to hand a customer a couple relays for spares because they can't find the problem!
Whats that really tell you about the techs that work there?
and the management that run the place!
The truck is a V10 gas. I have been giving this dealership the business because I have bought my last three trucks from them and they have treated me great. Through all this mess with this truck they have given me a free loaner no problems.
I really like this truck. However this prob will be in the back of my mind for a while. As for the relay, I guess you could call it a large fuse, its located in the fuse panel in the cab on the left hand lower side. Instead of looking like a typical fuse this is square and the link inside it which broke is circular. Very different looking.
Feel sorry for anyone that has to take a truck back multiple times for the same problem but don't think we should all run and ask for buy backs because we have seen others doing it. I think in your first post when you stated they replaced a relay but couldn't find the problem is a dealer/tech issue, lets not be quick to judge Ford the first time every time. Hope it is a simple fix and gets you back on the road as a happy FTE.
I had a similar issue with my last car "2003 Mercury Marauder." For no apparent reason I would blow the pink fuse and the car wouldn't start. Never left the house without a few extra fuses in the glove box. Fortunately for me my local Ford dealer gave me a great deal on my 2005 F250 so I traded her in. Good luck.
Basically I say buy back this early because the truck has almost been in the shop for 10 days. I run a landscape company and use this truck seven days a week. I bought this new truck so I wouldnt have problems like this for years to come. I know its probably something stupid but reguardless the trucks image is tarnished already. I can remember when I had a 93 Bronco with 200K I use to go out every morning and pray the thing would start. This truck is two months old and Im already questioning its reliability.
